Asked when he thought the war would end, Mr Elmer Davis, United States War Information Chief, a Washington cablegram reports, told a Press conference: “I have no idea. I saw Admiral Halsey’s most optimistic prediction, but am unable to find any basis for it.” Mr Davis added that Admiral Halsey’s statement had not been inspired by his department for war propaganda purposes.
