MR RAYBURN RE-ELECTED BY NARROW MARGIN. (By Telegraph—PJress Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, January 7. Mr Sam Rayburn was re-elected Speaker of the Congress, defeating the Republican candidate by 217 votes to 206. Thus by the slenderest margin in a decade the Democrats retained control of the House. Mr Rayburn told a cheering House that when victory is won there must be no stopping till the vandalism of Berlin, Rome and Tokio is wiped from the face of the world. “We must disarm the vandals and keep them disarmed,” he said.
