PARCEL DELIVERIES
INSTANCES OF LONG DELAYS. BETWEEN MASTERTON AND WELLINGTON. The extent to which the Christmas rush has disrupted the mail service is indicated by a local resident’s complaint that a parcel took nearly 12 days to travel from Wellington to Masterton . A parcel was posted at the Island Bay branch post office before 11 a.m. on December 19, in lime to catch the Masterton mail that day and was delivered in Masterton at 3 o'clock on December 30. Again, a parcel posted in Masterton on Monday, December 21, containing urgently needed clothing for a patient in the Wellington Hospital, arriving at the hospital on Decembe 29 —at the same time as the sender arrived to visit the patient. Refering to the above instances, the Acting-Postmaster, Mr A. G. Wiltshire, said that it was quite likely that the parcels were side-tracked in Wellington. Under the emergency conditions ruling, inexperienced sorters were doing their best in the Capital City but errors were bound to occur.
