PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Aircraftman Duncan Didsbury is staying with relatives here. The Misses G. and J. McDougall are the guests of their aunt, Miss N. McDougall. Mr and Mrs Didsbury, Wellington, are also staying with Miss McDougall. Mrs Tomlin was the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs O’Brien, over the Christmas holidays. Miss Joan Priest, Pahiatua, is staying, with her parents at Haunui. Mr S. Jackson is spending the holidays at Moanataha. Mr Gordon McKenzie is visiting relatives in Wellington. Flight Rigger George Ahipene has been transferred to a northern camp. Mr- Don McLeay, Wellington, returned home on Monday. Miss Joan Lovegrove spdnt the Christmas holidays with her parents. Mr and Mrs G. Gaudin are visiting relatives in Wellington. Mr and Mrs Guthrie have returned to Wellington after being the guests of Mr and Mrs D. Bell. Mr and Mrs McLeod, Palliser Bay, are the guests of Mrs Chapman, Martinborough. Mrs Grenfell Jones, Hinakura, is the guest of Miss McDougall. Fishing Good. It is stated that fishing at Cape Palliser has been the best for many years. Large catches of all species of fish have been made, more especially cod and groper. Home Guard. At a recent Home Guard parade, Commander E. C. Holmes, of the local Home Guard, was highly complimented by visiting officers on the smart appearance and efficiency of his command. At rifle range shooting -Sergeant S. Mclntosh obtained 163 points out of a possible 180. Wheat Crops. ~ Wheat crops generally grown in this district do not appear to have been very successful, although some of the crops are really good considering the adverse weather conditions which prevailed in the district for the past few months. Lake Outlet. The outlet of the lake is again blocked. ’ Holiday Weather. The weather for the Christmas holidays was finp and those who were camped along the shores of Palliser Bay experienced pleasant conditions. Rain fell here yesterday.
