POST-WAR IDEALS

China’s post-war ideals are given by the official “Central Daily News.” They are:— (1) The disarming of Japan and return of all former Chinese territories, . a temporary Allied occupation of Japan to ensure that the peace terms are properly carried out, and the punishment of Japanese militarists responsible for the war. (2) The abolition of all unequal treaties with foreign Powers and all treaties affecting China’s sovereignty. Abolitions of laws and regulations giving overseas Chinese discriminatory t treatment. Increased economic cooperation with foreign Powers to accelerate the industrialisation of China. (3) Recognition of small and weak Asiatic States’ rights of self-determina-tion and self-government. A good neighbour policy of economic and political co-operation, based on an equality and the abolition of ideas like that of the white man’s burden. The absolute economic equality of Chinese living in countries like Thailand, Malaya, the Philippines and the Dutch East Indies. The ■ newspaper adds that' China is not cherishing ideas like those of an Asiatic Monroe Doctrine.
