REGENT THEATRE

“MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION” One of the finest dramas ever brought to the screen is “Magnificent Obsession,” which will open its Masterton season this evening at 7.30 o’clock. It possesses all the characteristics which go to provide a picture that makes an immediate appeal to patrons. The story is cleverly told, and the acting is of an outstanding character. The dramatic elements in most of the scenes are presented in a manner which brings instant appreciation, the various scenes fitting in to make the whole an offering of exceptional merit'. “Magnificent Obsession” might be an old story, but the Robert Taylor-Irene Dunne partnership keens it evergreen. Taylor’s advance to "respectable citizenship after a doubtful start is not new, but it makes fine entertainment. Irene Dunne provides the audience with probably the best role of her career. A special shoppers’ session will be held at 10.15 o’clock tonight, and “Magnificent Obsession” will be finally shown on Christmas night. On Saturday afternoon at 2.15 and in the evening at 8 o'clock there will be shown the outstanding drama, “The Letter,” with Bette Davis in the most brilliant part in her screen career, and Herbert Marshall playing opposite her. A matinee will also be held on Monday afternoon at 2.15 o’clock.
