Stalin on his 63rd birthday, the phairman of the London County Council conveyed greetings “on behalf of the people of London, who are full of admiration for the brave and unwearied resistance of the Russian people. The cause of civilisation and a better world which the Allied peoples mean to achieve,” he said, “owes a heavy debt to your brilliant and inspiring leadership. May success attend your, efforts and those of the Russian people.”
