Today their Excellencies the Gover-nor-General and Lady Newall left Wellington for the South Island, where they will go into residence at Raincliff, near Pleasant Point. Mrs Hindley, Cambridge Terrace, Masterton, is visiting the South Island. Miss M. Allan, Cambridge Terrace, Masterton, is spending a holiday in Dunedin. Miss M. Sexton, Napier, is staying with hei’ sister, Mrs P. Cooper, Pownall Street, Masterton. Mr P. R. M. Hanna. Wellington, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed chairman of the Associated Banks for 1943 in sucession to Mr H. R. H. Chalmers, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand. The New Zealand Navy Office has received information from London that Temp. Sub-Lieut. Hugh Morrison, of the naval air force, and son of the late Mr Rupert Morrison, formerly of Blairlogie, Masterton, and Mrs Amy V. Tomlinson, of Titahi Bay, has been mentioned in dispatches, and decorated. There was a representative attendance at the funeral in Masterton yesterday of the late Mr R. Fergusson. The Rev. David McNeur officiated. Wreaths were sent by the staff of the Regent Theatre and T. Wagg and Co., Ltd., besides others from private sympathisers. Messrs B. L. McCarthy, P. Watts, H. Volheim and J. T. McGill acted as pall-bearers. The interment of the late Mr H. C. Keen took place at the Masterton Cemetery this morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church by the Rev. Father Dr. Gilhooly, and the service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Father N. Moore. Among others was a wreath from Mr W. Orange and staff. The pall-bearers were Messrs P. Eastwood, F. Ball, Guy Wagg and F. Corry. The funeral of the late Mr W. J. Willoughby took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The service at the Salvation Army Citadel was conducted by Adjutant W. B. Stone. Among the wreaths was one from the officers and comrades of the Masterton Corps. The pall-bearers were Captain Scott, Private Hoare, Corporal S. M. Leighton and Treasurer Trudgeon, all members of the Salvation Army.
The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital this morning of Mr Tawahati Wirihana (Wilson), of Te Ore Ore, at the age of 42 years. The late Mr Wirihana was born at Levin, and had resided at Te Ore Ore for a number of years. He had been in ill-health for some time, and was well known in the district. He is survived by a wife and three daughters. The funeral will take place on Friday, leaving the Te Ore Ore Catholic Church, following a ser|vice at 2 p.m., for the Native Cemetery.
