POWERFUL ATTACK

MADE BY AMERICAN PLANES ON LASHIO. NO. ENEMY FIGHTERS SEEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 21. American bombers, escorted by fighters, yesterday dropped seven tons of bombs, on Lashio, the terminus of the Burma Road, reports the Associated. Chungking correspondent. They destroyed warehouses and city installations, damaged runways and hangars on an aerodrome, started huge fires and machine-gunned trucks of Japanese soldiers. The fighters also strafed the guard gate at Tengyueh. The expedition encountered heavy anti-air-craft' fire, but there was no interception by enemy fighters, leading to a belief that Japanese planes have been transferred to Akyab.
