— Dr and Mrs H. B. Berney, Lansdowne,‘are visiting Wanganui. Miss Maxine McLaren, Te Rangitumau, has returned from a visit to the South Island. Miss A. Goble, Renall Street, Masterton, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Mrs R. A. Bunny, Renall Street, Masterton, is staying with Mrs G. F. McHardy, Hawke’s Bay. The funeral of the late Mrs P. Hider took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiated. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. Bradbury, J. Henderson, F. G. Hunt and E. J. Brown. The chief mourner was a son, Mr A. Harrod, of Martinborough. The many friends of Sergeant Earl Cross, formerly of Masterton. and the well known Red Star and Wairarapa representative footballer, will be, pleased to learn that he has cabled his mother, Mrs E. M. Cross, Bannister’ Street, that his wounds are not serious and that there was no need for anxiety. Two of the four members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, who were killed when a bomber crashed on a test flight in New Zealand on Thursday were to have been married today. They were Flight Lieutenant G. W. Hamlin, D.F.C., and Pilot Officer I. McGregor. The homes of both men were in Auckland. They were close friends and served together in the famous No. 75 New Zealand Bomber Squadron in Britain. Cabled advice has been received of the death in Canada after a brief illness of the Rev Rowland V. Bingham, D. at the age of 70. Dr Bingham visited New Zealand in 1927 on behalf of the Sudan Interior Mission, of which he was general director, when missionary work in Abyssinia was being contemplated, and again in 1938 when he was one of the principal speakers at the Ngaruawahia Easter Convention meetings. Miss Jean Clarry, daughter of Mr and Mrs B. M. Clarry, Waihi, was the guest of honour at a party held at the residence of her aunt, Miss M. Robiesori, Essex Street, Masterton. The gathering was arranged by the relatives and friends of Miss Clarry to mark her 21st birthday. A very pleasant time was spent and Mr E. Robieson, of Auckland, in an amusing speech, presented her with a key. Others present were Mr and Mrs W. H. Robieson, Miss E. Robieson, Mr and Mrs W. James, Mr Alan James, Mr and Mrs E. J. Hoffer and Miss Pam Heffer.
