Soldiers Express Thanks.

Expressions of thanks on behalf of the men to the people of Masterton have been received by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, from the commanders of several units of the forces. In particular, they desire to thank the Anzac Club, the Cathoic Club, the Salvation Army and the Y.M.C.A. A Practice Criticised. Commenting on the practice of sending out Christmas greeting cards, Mr W. B. Martin, speaking at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, said it was a waste of time and money. Another member, Mrs S. Fletcher, said it was imposing an additional burden on an overworked Post Office. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, agreed that they were not of much use. Pension Anomalies. Gratification was'expressed at a recent meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Returned Services Association that the Government had removed certain pension anomalies that had been the subject of recommendations by the association’s annual conference. Dissatisfaction was expressed, however, that the Government stipulated that a pensioner must have been in receipt of a 100 per cent disability pension before his widow or any dependent children would, at the discretion of the War Pensions Board, receive a dependant's pension. The association considers that war pensioners who have received 60 per cent disability pension or over should have this privilege.
