ST. MATTHEW’S SCHOOL
PRESENTATION OF PRIZES . ANNUAL CEREMONY HELD LAST NIGHT. LIST OF VARIOUS AWARDS. There was a large attendance at the annual prize-giving ceremony held at St. Matthew’s Collegiate School; Masterton, last night. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich presided. The proceedings commenced with a hymn sung by the pupils and a Scripture recitation by Vivienne Rich. Archdeacon Rich, in welcoming those present, said he was pleased to see so many taking an interest in the school. On behalf of the board of governors, he thanked parents and friends for their support and confidence, and the principal, the staff, the matron, and the domestic staff for their fine work. He had every confidence in the future, as the school had established a record of which it might well be proud. Mrs Max Cleghorn, Principal, in her report covering the year’s activities referred in detail to various school work. Thanks were expressed to all who had helped the school during the year. Although 1942 had.been a difficult year, it had been a happy one at St. Matthew’s. Most of the girls had learnt to work hard, to be helpful, a*(d to live pleasantly with each other. An address was given by the actingvicar of Featherston, the Rey. J. R. Higgs, to which reference is made elsewhere in this issue. Mr Higgs presented the prizes and trophies.
