COUNTY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA SOUTH MEETING OF COUNCIL. POSITION AT WATER SUPPLY HEADWORKS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Councillor F. Court presided over the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council held at Carterton today. There were also present: Councillors A, E. Reid, E. W. Allen, R. Rayner, L. S. Gallon, M. McGregor, Jas. Strang, A. McGregor and the County Clerk, Mr E. T. Beaven. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £ 7263. It was reported that the receipts since the last meeting had amounted to £3002. The reports of the Taratahi and Carrington water race overseers were read and adopted. The Taratahi water race overseer submitted a detailed report which showed that if something were not done to the headworks, thoroughly. and speedily, serious trouble in getting water into the races would be experienced. It was resolved that the chairman, Councillors Reid, Allen and Rayner, accompanied by the water race overseer and the county overseer, visit the headworks and inspect the same with power to act if necessary. Councillor Rayner reported that the position at the intake was very bad It was resolved that the county office be closed for the annual holidays from Monday afternoon, December 21, till Wednesday morning, January 13, 1943,
