When a Hurricane fightei’ shot down a Junkers 88 during the first days of the occupation of Algeria, Gruppen Kommender von Roth, one of Germany’s most outstanding airmen, was killed. Von Roth, who was making a personal survey of the situation, commanded a bomber group in Tunisia. He participated in the Battle of Britain.
