NURSES’ OLD HOME
BUILDING TO BE REPAIRED. LIGHT TOP STORY PROPOSED. At yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board consideration was given to proposals submitted by the board’s architect. Mr F.C. Daniell concerning the nurses old home at the Masterton Hospital. Mr Daniell estimated the cost of strengthening the building and converting the top story into,.a ligjit structure at £8,346. The cost of a new home to accommodate 48 nurses, omitting the kitchen and dining rooms was estimated at £21,000 while the cost of converting the existing building to a single story structure with strengthening and a new roof covering of corrugated asbestos was £5,897.
After the alternative proposals had been discussed it was decided to obtain plans and specifications from Mr Daniell for the erection of a. light top story on a strengthened building and to submit them to the Health Department for its approyal and priority.
