, PATRIOTIC SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Patriotic Society held a very successful “games night’ on Saturday evening last. The winners in the euchie were: Ladies, Mrs R. Low; men, Mr T. Smith and Mr R. Low. . A competition for a ham donated by Mrs G. Napier realised £3 18s 9d, and was Won by Mr J. McDonald. Tea donated by Mrs Godinagh brought £1 Is 6d, the competition held in connection therewith being won by Mr J. McDonald, who most generously gave both the tea find ham back to be auctioned. • Mr P. Hovard auctioned the following gifts:—Cauliflowers, donated by Mr Hovard,' brought 7s; rhubarb, Mrs .A. Napier, 13s 6d; marrow plants, Miss Hare, Is; beans, Mrs R. Low, 2s 6d; turnips. Mrs R. Low, 3s; lettuce, Mrs E. J. McLean. 3s; lily, Mrs Low, Is.. Donations were received from Mr J. L Heckler. £l4, and Mr H. Percy. £l. The hostesses were Mesdames O. Walker, Yarrell and Hartley.
BIRTHDAY PARTY '
MISS K. WALLIS HONOURED. Mr and Mrs Wallis entertained about 120 guests at a dance in the Tiraumea Hall on Friday evening last in honour of the twenty-first birthday of their - eldest daughter, Kathleen. Mrs Wallis received her guests wearing a black frock relieved with a spray of pink roses. Miss Kathleen Wallis was dressed in a taffeta frock, with a shoulder spray of tiny pink roses and maidenhair fern. , Mr S. Raleigh, in proposing the health of the guest of.honour, wished her happiness and prosperity for the rest of her. life. ' , , A two-tier birthday cake, decorated in pink and white, was cut and handed round. , Mr Wallis replied on behalf of his daughter, and thanked those present for helping to make the gathering so enjoyable. Miss Wallis received many useful and valuable gifts, which were arranged on a table. Mr Curtis and Miss N. Wallis and Miss Bisset played the music for the dancing. Miss Bisset also gave a muchappreciated vocal item, as well as playing the piano. Mr S. Raleigh took the opportunity to welcome back to the district Sergeant H. Stimpson, who had recently returned from overseas. Sergeant H. Stimpson was given three hearty cheers. The serving of supper brought an enjoyable gathering to a close. ' Visitors were present'from Pahiatua, Pongaroa and Masterton. Personal Items. " Sister C. George, of the Hastings Hospital staff, is visiting her mother, Mrs E. George. Mr and Mrs Dickens and family are 1 visiting Wanganui. Nurse P. Rolls, of the Masterton Hospital staff, is the guest of Mrs Hartley.
