FEATHERSTON
RIVER BOARD MEETING SEPARATE AREA FOR RATING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of the South Wairarapa River Board held in the Council Chambers, Featherston, there were present: Messrs R. A. Donald (chairman), A. Linton, W. T. Hume and AV. H. Martin. An apology for absence was received from Mr R. W. Matthews. The account at the bank was shown to be in credit to the extent of £531 13s 2d. Accounts amounting to 18s were passed for payment. A letter from the board’s solicitors advised that the board could create a separate area for rating so that the money received could be expended on the special work of repairing the Tuhitarata stop banks. It was decided to take the steps necessary to set the work in motion. BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES. The following are the results of games played by members of the Featherston Bowling Club in connection with championship competitions:— Champion singles: L. James beat W. Elder. Champion pairs: G. O’Neale and J. Thompson beat W. Johnson and W. Rowles. Benton Ferns: W. Higgison and L. James (holders) beat J. Hutana and H. McNamara (challengers). FELLOWSHIP OF YOUTH ENJOYABLE GATHERING. A very happy time was spent al the Parish Hall last evening when members of the Fellowship of Youth entertained their parents and friends at a breaking up party. Miss C. Saba supplied the music for' the dancing. v Songs were given by Misses A. Cassidy, O. Clapshaw, D. Raper and the Rev. J. R. Higgs, and were much appreciated. Competitive games caused much amusement. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs J. McKenna have returned from a visit to Wellington. Information has been received locally that Lieutenant O. C. Ritchie had been wounded in the leg by a Japanese sniper, but that the bone had not been injured. COSY THEATRE “WAGONS ROLL AT NIGHT.” K four-star cast heads the new Warner Bros.’ picture, “The Wagons Roll at Night',” which will be shown at the Cosy Theatre tomorrow night. The headliners are Humphrey Bogart, Joan Leslie, Eddie Albert and Sylvia Sidney. and the picture is a powerfully dramatic story of nomads of the road, living, loving and hating by a code of their own.
