BOWLING CHAMPION RINKS COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The second round of the Carterton Bowling Club’s rink championship was played on Saturday. The afternoon tea arrangements were supervised by Mesdames Newbould and Harford and Miss Smith, to whom a hearty vote of thanks was passed. The results of games were as follow:—Pan khurst, G. Steven, Simmonds. Sorensen (s). beat Spooner, Hill, Callender. Harris (si, 26/12; Adams, W. Hart, Martin, Whyte (s), beat Booth. Colson, Newbould, Riggs (s), 22/20; Kilmister, King, Curtis, Harp (s). beat Beaven, Hawker, Underhill. Barr (s), 22/17; Clark, Foster. DeLacey, Tucker (s) beat Foss, Edwards, Bain, Stent (s), 19/18. Sorensen’s team beat Tucker’s rink in a game held over from the previous Saturday. 31/16. Masson Memorial Cun: King. Harris, Harp, Riggs (s) beat McCarty. Colson, Daysh. Newbould Is), 16/3. The following games were played by members of the Carterton Ladies’ Bowling Club on Saturday:—Mesdames Booth and Callender (s) boat Mrs Adams and Miss Armstrong (s), 19/17; Mrs Swan and Miss Lamb (s) beat Mrs Colson and Mrs Martin (s), 23/12. Patriotic Dance. At the weekly .dance held by the Carterton Patriotic Committee in the State Theatre on Saturday night, there was a good attendance. The music was played by the combined orchestras of Messrs T. Udy and F. Poole. Lucky spot waltzes were won by Miss Peggy Deller and Mr G. Parker, and Miss Joan Beere and Pte. Hugh Morrow. Mr P. L. Beere was an efficient M.C. The supper arrangements were supervised by Mrs H. Goodin and Misses Hamer, Trapp and Wolters. Regent Theatre Reopened. There was a good attendance at the Regent Theatre on Saturday evening, when pictures were shown for the first time in six months owing to the damage done by the earthquake. The remodelling of the interior of the theatre was very favourably commented upon, and the picture shown, “Sergeant York,” was an excellent one. The programme will be repeated tonight. REGENT THEATRE “SERGEANT YORK.” Gary Cooper will be seen in the greatest role of his career at the Regent Theatre tonight, when “Sergeant York” will be presented for the last time.
