BREAK-UP CEREMONY
GATHERING AT WAIRARAPA COLLEGE ROLL OF HONOUR BOARDS. UNVEILED. YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED. There was a large attendance at the annual Wairarapa College prize ceremony held in the Assembly Hall Masterton, last night. Mr W. R. Nicol chairman of the College Board of Governors presided. Apologies for absence were received from the Mayor, Mr T. .lordan and the member for Masterton, Mr J. Robertson, ‘ The proceedings commenced with the singing of “God Defend New Zealand and later in the evening the school pupils sang the school song and “Forty Years On” and the American National Anthem. Mr Nicol in welcoming those present congratulated members of the stall on their work throughout the year despite the difficulties caused through members being called away on military service. He hoped that pupils who had left school, would take an active part in civic affairs and wished all present seasonal greetings. An address was given by Mr J. W. Mawson, Government Town Planning Advisor, to which reference is made elsewhere in this issue. Mr Mawson presented the prizes and certificates. The Acting-principal, Mr F. J. Gair, submitted his annual report, in which he referred to staff shortages due to war conditions and the hampering of school work by the effects of the earthquake. The examination results last year compared more than favourably with those of 1940. The trades boys were doing splendid war work and during the holidays nearly all the boys in the school intended to take up work. He thanked all who had assisted the College in any way. Towards the encl of the ceremony Mr J. W. Bird unveiled two temporary Roll Of Honour Boards, one for pupils who had been decorated and the other for those who had given their lives.
