FEATHERSTON

ENJOYABLE DANCE VERY LARGE ATTENDANCE. ("Times-A-ge” Special.) There was a very large attendance at the soldiers’ dance held in the Town Hall on Saturday night. The gathering was a very enjoyable one. The music was supplied by Mrs Karaitiana’s orchestra,’ extras being played by Miss Grace Fraser and a soldier. The beautiful paeonies and lupins which decorated the stage and supper room were given by Mrs D. 11. S. Riddiford and Mrs Rob. Donald. The supper was supplied by the patriotic junior committee. „ Boy Scouts Entertained. The Girl Guides entertained the Scouts at a social gathering, when a happy time was spent in competitions and games. Supper was provided. Rubber Drive. The Scouts and Guides have been asked to conduct a rubber drive next Saturday afternoon, and residents are asked to have their contributions ready when the collectors call. Personal Items. Misses A. and F. Jones, Wellington, were week-end guests of their sister. Mrs A. P. Clapshaw. Mr and Mrs lan Carlyon, Wellington, were visitors to Featherston during the week-end. The funeral of the late Mr Andrew Charles Murphy took place at the Featherston cemetery on Saturday afternoon. The Rev. H. Bloomfield conducted the services at the house and graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs W. S. Gundesen, J. B. Ritchie, C. Murphy, S. Hodder, L. Hodder and M. Hodder. Among the many beautiful wreaths was one from Loyal Unity Lodge. The late Mr Murphy was born in Featherston and spent all his life here. He leaves a widow and family of three (Mrs W. S. Gundesen, Lower Hutt, Mrs J. B. Ritchie, Wellington, and Mr A. G. Murphy, Greytown) to mourn their loss.

COSY THEATRE “GREAT GUNS” On Wednesday night there will be shown the outstanding comedy of the year, “Great Guns,” featuring Laurel and Hardy. It is reported by the management to be “a barrage of laughter and a bombardment of hilarity.”
