FARMERS’ UNION WOMEN’S' DIVISION” MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The women’s division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held its final meeting for the year yesterday afternoon in the Parish Hall, when Mrs Beu presided over a good attendance of members. Two new members, Mesdames J. D. Morison and McKay, were enrolled. Mesdames Stunell, Senr. and J. Barnard sent greetings to the branch. It being the occasion of Mrs A. W. Horton’s birthday, a posy of red roses and maidenhair was sent to her. The posy was made by Mrs Bayliss. Used stamps were handed in by Mesdames Fairbrother, Stringfellow and Wood, Senr. The competition which has been conducted throughout the yeai’ was won by Mrs D. Ingley, with Mrs W. Hutchings second. The following items were rendered during the afternoon: Pianoforte solo, Mrs H. Carter; songs, Mrs R. Ingley; monologue and recitation, Miss I. Wiggins. A song competition was won by Mesdames R. Ingley, with R. O’Neale second. A telegram competition from the word “victory” was won by Mrs Coleman (“victory includes courageous teaching of rightous yielding.”) Mrs Dyson received the second prize. Mrs Beu wished members a quiet and restful Christmas. The accompanistes were Mesdames H. G. Carter, Coleman and Vinsen. S.M. COURT BREACHES OF LIQUOR LAWS. At the usual sitting of the Magistrates’ Court yesterday Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided. Alexander C. Rogers was charged by the police that he had failed to make application for enrolment in the General Reserve, and also with having failed to make application for enrolment in the Home Guard. Defendant pleaded guilty to both charges. On the first charge he was fined £l, with costs 10s, and on the second charge £3 with costs 10s. Joe Ham, of Masterton (Mr Burridge) was charged on three, separate counts of having supplied liquor to Maori girls. After having heard the evidence, the Magistrate reserved his decision. On a charge of having procured liquor after hours from the Taratahi Hotel, and also with having removed liquor from this hotel after hours, Ham was convicted and fined £2, with costs 10s on each of the charges. - ■' Bowling. The following games were played this week in the handicap singles:—W. Higgison beat F. Dennes, H. Wallace beat- G. Brunton, A. Peterson beat J. Reid. All first round games must be completed on Saturday. Personal. Mrs Vartha, of Lower Hutt, is visiting her sister, Mrs Beu, of Morison’s Bush. Sgt. A. Hobson, R.N.Z.A.F., who has recently returned from overseas, is visiting Greytown. Mrs E. S. Edser, of Wellington, is staying at the Foresters’ Arms Hotel. TOWN HALL “THE GAY FALCON.” “The Gay Falcon” will head the programme at the Town Hall tonight, with George Sanders and Wendy Barrie portraying the leading roles in a drama which is full of excitement. The supporting picture is “The Long Voyage Home.” an excellent story of adventure with John Wayne in the chief character.
