WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
UPPER PLAIN MEETING. SEVENTH BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Clement’s lawn and garden made an ideal setting for the seventh birthday meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute. There was a good attendance of members and friends. Mesdames A. Keir (Kahuna) and C. Jarrett (Kopuaranga) represented the Wairarapa Federation, and were heartily welcomed. Boxes of flowers artistically arranged by one of the members were presented to visitors and officers. Mrs Laing demonstrated the making of slippers and mocassins. Handcraft work and papier mache splints were on display. Goods from the Pedlar Box were offered for sale, and a bring-and—buy stall did brisk business. After the cutting 'of the birthday cake, afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mesdames Tankersley and E. Taplin. Miss Kane (Dominion President) had requested that at the November meeting every member contribute a penny for the A.C.W.W. funds, and this was heartily supported. A competition and songs by Miss Wilson contributed to a very enjoyable gathering.
