AXIS ARMY AT STALINGRAD
In Danger of Being Enveloped RUSSIANS PRESSING ATTACKS AND ENEMY LOSSES MOUNTING INVADERS ON DEFENSIVE IN CAUCASUS LONDON, November 23. The Russians are continuing- their advances both from the north-west and south of Stalingrad and the Axis army attacking the city is in danger of being trapped. A correspondent says that in its attack from the northwest, the Red Army has defeated and badly mauled three German tank divisions. The enemy losses in killed and captured, estimated in a Moscow statement last night at 27,000, are rapidly mounting’. , Inside Stalingrad itself the principal news is of vain attempts by the enemy to take positions regained by the Russians in the factory area. Elsewhere Soviet pressure is being intensified, with the enemy resisting stubbornly but losing ground. The Russians are striking towards the flank in the Kuban region and the Caucasus. In the eastern Caucasus, south-east of Nalchik, the Soviet troops are battering the positions taken up by the Axis troops after their defeat at Ordzhonikidze.
