AUSTRALIAN RACING MEETING AT FLEMINGTON. CUP WON BY OUTSIDER. ("Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) MELBOURNE, November 22. Colonus, who found six furlongs beyond him little more than 12 months ago. revelled in the conditions at Flemington and spieadeagled the Melbourne Cup field. His victory stunned the large attendance, as did the minor placing of Phocion and Heart s Desire The former has not yet won a race. Colonus is owned by Mr L. O. Menck, who has been represented in the Melbourne Cup many times. The horse cost his Present owner 150 guineas and has won over £7OOO in stakes. ■ The chief races resulted:— Melbourne Cup, two miles:. Colonus, 7.2 (H McCloud), 1; Phocion, 7.5 (L. Armfield), 2- Heart's Desire, 7.2 (H. Morris), 3. Twentyfour starters. Colonus was never in danger of defeat over the last half-mile, and Phocion finished gamely seven lengths behind and five lengths ahead of Heart’s Decire Then came Darkfelt, Gusher, Wilson, Similar and Pandini, with Tranquil Star, thirteenth, Great Britain sixteenth, Skipton seventeenth and Hestia last.
