STATE THEATRE

“HI GANG.” “Hi Gang” will be finally shown tonight at the State Theatre. “THE GHOST TRAIN.” “The Ghost Train,” the celebrated stage success by Arnold Ridley, which ran. for 655 performances at St. Martin’s Theatre, London, has been handed down through the years, and G.B.D. now presents a third topical film version. The first film starred Guy Newall, and the second “talkie” with Jack Hulbert and Cicely Courtneidge was produced in 1931. Strangely enough, Walter Forde directed the 1931 edition, and has again directed the cameras for this Arthur Askey starring vehicle, which will be shown tomorrow night at the State Theatre. Not only has “The Ghost Train” proved famous on the stage, but it has also proved a sensation and thrill over the air. Stage and broadcasting cannot claim all the laurels, for the screen now presents with scenic brilliance the looming horror of the phantom train, and the bewildered and frightened collection of travellers, each noted for his or her specialised character acting, matched by’ the hilarious comedy star, Arthur Askey.
