OBITUARY
REV FATHER DEVLIN. (“Times-Age” Special.) At Carterton yesterday the death occurred suddenly of Father Devlin, of the Roman Catholic Presbytery. Father Devlin suffered from asthma and it was in a very bad fit of coughing from this complaint that he passed away. He was well known and highly respected by a large circle of friends throughout the Wairarapa. Born at Belfast, Ireland, 46 years ago, he went to the Hollywood National School at Belfast. He later attended St Kieran’s College, County Kilkenny, where he undertook his intermediate studies. Arriving in New Zealand in 1922, he resided at Masterton for several years. From there he was appointed parish priest at Takapau, and was then transferred to Kaikoura and four years ago was appointed to the Carterton Presbytery. His widowed mother lives at Erkin Lodge, City Leix, Ireland. He leaves three sisters, one being a nun at the Presentation Convent, Kilkenny City, Ireland, and two step brothers. The funeral will leave St Mary’s Church, Carterton, tomorrow after solemn requiem mass, which will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
