The Ways and Means Committee of the United States House of Representatives rejected President Roosevelt’s request for blanket power to suspend immigration, tariff and espionage laws where hampering the war effort, a cablegram reports. A sub-committee was appointed to work out a compromise proposal confined to specific restrictions.
