ITALIAN TORPEDO-PLANES MEET DISASTER FIVE QUICKLY SHOT DOWN BY SPITFIRES. SOLE SURVIVOR PUT TO FLIGHT LONDON, November 19. Four R.A.F. Spitfires disposed quickly of a formation of six Italian torpedo-carrying planes which were attempting to attack an Allied convoy off the North African coast. Within a minute five of the Italian aircraft were shot down into the sea and the sixth put to flight. None of the Italian machines were given a chance to drop their torpedoes.
