girl guides ANNUAL MEETING. The an ton-Martinborough Girl elation was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs W. Boccupied the chair in place of Miss Card, who, for health reasons, was unable to preside. There was a very good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. C. Pearce, G. S. Sharp, A. Peene, G. Rper and Miss Martin. The financial statement, which was adopted, was considered very satisfactory. Mrs Bidwill, District Commissioner, presented her annual report, giving an account of the work and activities of the Featherston and Martinborough Companies and Packs. The re port was most interesting and demonstrated that the children exhibited considerable enthusiasm in their work. They had especially excelled in the collection of rags and in the making of camouflage nets Mrs Riddiford, Divisional Commissioner, congratulated Mrs Bidwill on her report, and stressed the value of the guide training, especially the importance of an outdoor life for children. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Miss Card; vicepresidents, Mesdames H. \V. Blundell, W. B. Martin, W. Barton, H. L. Griffiths; secretary-treasurer, Miss L. Blundell; committee, Mesdames Peene, J. McKenna, J. Howell, Pain and Knpll. Mrs Martin introduced Mrs Turnbull, Wellington Divisional Commissioner, who gave an interesting address on the activities of the Wellington Division/ She said that the Wellington division consisted of 43 companies, with approximately 1000 guides, and a cadet company of 13 for the training of guiders. A company of Sea Rangers had been started. There had been an increase ol about 200 guides during the year, and this was most encouraging. On the motion of Mrs Blundell the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. • Afternoon tea was served by members of the Featherston Committee. Fellowship of Youth. There was a good attendance of members at the meeting of the Fellowship of Youth, held on Monday night. The time was spent in a discussion and in games. Welcome Rain. After the recent heavy gales of the past week, which dried up the countryside, a welcome rain set in yesterday afternoon. Women’s Division. A meeting of the local branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’, Union was held in the Red Cross Society s Rooms, Mrs Brandon presiding over a good attendance. At the conclusion of the business a collection was taken up on behalf of the Makogai Leper Fund. Mrs L. McKenna, Pahautea, 'gave a very interesting demonstration of papier mache work. Padre Falloon asked the members to arrange for accommodation for soldiers’ wives during the next two week-ends. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Sharp and Gooding. . Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Wakely and Miss Card. COSY THEATRE “INVITATION TO A MURDER.” One of the most thrilling and brilliantly acted dramas, “Invitation to a Murder,” will be shown at the Cosy Theatre tonight. The leading roles are taken by Thomas Mitchell, Geraldine Fitzgerald and Jeffrey Lynn, and it is a picture which should be appreciated.
