USE OF BICYCLES
SCARCITY OF TUBES AND TIRES. WARNING ISSUED TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS. “In view of the difficulty in obtaining supplies of raw materials for bicycle tires and lubes, I have been instructed by the Ministry of Supply and Munitions to request parents not to permit others than themselves to use their bicycles unless absolutely unavoidable.” slated Mr R. C. Jordan, hon secretary of the Masterton Tire and Tube Rationing Committee this morning. Numerous complaints are being received where the breadwinners themselves cannot obtain these goods, whilst many bicycles ridden by children are seen daily on the streets. “Of course, it is quite understood that in many cases, children are sent on errands which may be quite in order in the ordinary way, but too often the bicycle is used for a matter of a few hundred yards. This practice must stop. Therefore, in order to enable the committee to function equitably for all concerned, thereby giving every deserving or necessitous applicant’an of obtaining these p'oods the public arc informed that unless steps are taken by parents or Piiiu'dians to see that cycles are used 'dnlv for legitimate purposes, applications for tires and tubes will be declined.”
