Mrs Wedderspoon, of Perry Street, Masterton, has received advice that her son, Jim Cook, is missing, and is believed to be a prisoner of war. The death has occurred in Whangarei of Mr Adam Callendar McCardle, aged 71. Third son of the late Hon W. W. McCardle, M.L.C., he was born in Dunedin and with the family went to Pahiatua. For many years he was engaged in farming in Hawke’s Bay, in the King Country and in the Waikato. Mr McCardle had lived in retirement at Papatoetoe for several years. . The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand at Auckland unanimously elected the Rev D. C. Herron, M.A., M.C., of Knox Church, Dunedin, as moderator-desig-nate to take office for the year 194344. There were six nominations, but the others were not proceeded with. After returning in 1919 from his service as a chaplain with the New Zealand Forces, Mr Herron became minister of St David’s Church, Auckland, till in 1930 he accepted a call to Knox Church, Dunedin.
