CROQUET SEASON
OFFICIALLY OPENED ON SATURDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The official opening of the Greytown Croquet Club’s season took place on Saturday afternoon. Mrs H. G. Carter (president) expressed pleasure at seeing so many honorary members present. She was presented with a shoulder spray by Miss Udy (patroness). Miss Udy hit the first ball through the hoop and declared the greens open for play. She was then presented with a shoulder spray. Mrs A. Haigh (secretary) and Mrs A. Gregor (treasurer) also received shoulder sprays. They were the work of Miss D. Richards. The winners of the various competitions were:—Mrs Vinsen (hidden number prize); French, Mrs F. Nichols and Mrs A. York; golf, Mesdames Kiernan and Robb; angles, Miss Hill. . Afternoon tea was served in tne pavilion. , ~ Mrs J. Kiernan thanked the president and members for their hospitality. Personal. Miss D. Richards spent the weekend in Wellington. League of Mothers’ Choir. The Greytown League of Mothers Choir under the baton of Mrs A. York, gave a very enjoyable concert to tn inmates of the Buchanan Home on r nday afternoon. The programme was as follows:— Pianoforte duet, Mes dames H. G. Carter and H. Farley, songs, “The Apple Woman and “Nymphs and Shepherds, the choir, solos, Mrs Eccles; piano accordion items, Mrs Drysdale; “ A . nm and ‘“Robin Adair,” choir; Highland Fling, Beth Stuart; solos, Mrs H- rm, ley; ‘‘Little Blue Bird of My Heart and “John Peel,” choir. The accompanists were Mesdames H. G. cairei al Ma?ron C Higginson thanked the choir for having entertained the mmates. The members of the party weie P vided with afternoon tea in the nurses dining room. Bowling. . Twenty-four players took part m tn first series of the Progressive pans competition at the weekend.
