SPECIAL POLICE

FORMATION DECIDED UPON IN AUSTRALIA ACTION AGAINST CARGO PILLAGERS. PRESENT LOSSES COLOSSAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. To stop colossal losses through cargo pillaging, forces of special police, under State control, are to be formed at all the main Australian ports foe wharf duty. They will patrol the wharves day and night, and will watch the loading and unloading of all goods. Motorboats will be provided to facilitate their work. Plans for the protection of cargoes from pillaging were made at a conference of State and Commonwealth authorities. The conference was attended by the State police commissioners, representatives of shipping companies, unions controlling waterside workers, and insurance companies.
