AWARD OF D.S.O.

TO NEW ZEALAND NAVAL OFFICERS. SERVICE IN MADAGASCAR. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The King has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the Distinguished Service Cross to Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (A) Hugh Harold Alexander, of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve. The award is for bravery and enterprise while serving in his Majesty s . ships, transports and Royal Fleet auxiliaries in the successful operations which led to the surrender of the important base of Diego Suarez in Madagascar. This officer entered the Royal'New Zealand Navy on August 9, 1940, as a naval airman, second class, for service with the Royal Navy, where he is still serving. He was promoted to his present rank on July 12, 1941.
