WEST SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. SUPPORT FOR GALA DAY. The monthly meeting of the Masterton West School was held last night in the West School, Mr R. Graham presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Rogers and A. S. Graham. Mr J. Hayward, of the Home and School Association, waited on the committee and outlined the proposals for the “gala day” which is to be held at the school on Saturday, December 5, and requested the assistance of committee members in connection with the various stalls and competitions. The chairman informed Mr Hayward that the full help of the committee would be given to assist in making a success of the gathering. The headmaster reported a role number of 354. Minor repairs and suggestions for the improvement of the school grounds were brought forward and received favourable consideration. Mr Campbell referred to a recent lecture organised by the Masterton branch of the Educational Institute to which committee members had been invited. On his motion it was decided that thanks be extended to the branch for the opportunity provided of attending the lecture. Arrangements were made to have t/ie playing area mown and various depressions levelled off. It was reported that the concreting of the grounds had been completed and the contractor was commended for the excellence of his work.
