SERIOUS BUSH FIRES

RAGING ON WIDE FRONT

IN KAITUNA FOOTHILLS. LARGE NUMBER OF SHEEP BURNED TO DEATH. An extensive bush fire, which has been burning in the foothills in the Kaituna district for. several days, was fanned into greater intensity by last night’s gale. It is reported that large numbres of sheep have been burned to death in the fire, which extends over a front of five miles. As a safety measure several families were evacuated from their homes. As telephone communication with the district has been broken by the wind, no further details were available at time of going to press.
