MINIATURE RIFLES END OF SEASON COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following were the scores registered in connection with the Featherston Miniature Rifle Club’s end of season competition:—B. RED CROSS SOCIETY There was a good attendance at the euchre party held in- the Red Cross Society’s rooms yesterday afternoon. Mrs Charles was the winner at cards, and Mrs McKenna and Mrs Sadler were the competition winners. Donations were received from Mesdames McKenna, N. Matthews and Lawson. Among others, Red Cross Society representatives were at the station to welcome Private lan Cherry, who recently returned from service overseas. A member of the Red Cross transport conveyed Private Cherry’s parents to the station, and then took Mr and Mrs Cherry and their son home. The Featherston V.A.’s are to be congratulated on winning the silver cup, presented by the Wairarapa Trained Nurses’ Association, on Saturday at Masterton. The competition was open to teams throughout the Wairarapa. This cup is to be competed for every year. Seamen Entertained. A party of merchant seamen and other units, organised by the Wellington branch of the British Sailors’ Society, visited Featherston yesterday. The party were met at the station and were welcomed by the Mayor (Mr J. W. Card). They were entertained at luncheon at the Services Club by the club's committee. Mr Hunter, president of the club, extended a very warm welcome to the visitors. Mr J. E. Lea, Port Missioner, returned thanks. He stated that the party had thoroughly enjoyed the visit and greatly appreciated the hospitality shown them. The party were taken to places of interest around the township and were given afternoon tea before leaving for the train. Members of the party expressed their deep appreciation of the enjoyable time provided for them. Highly Successful Blackout. The chief warden reports that the blackout was highly successful, only one complaint having been received. The siren sounded at 8.15 p.m., and the all clear signal was given at 9.15. A plane circled overhead immediately the alarm was given. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs J. Anderson are visiting their daughter, Mrs Heron, in the South Island. Mrs J. P. Hornabrook is spending a holiday at Paekakariki. Mrs C. Matthews, Oporua, is visiting Wellington. COSY THEATRE “MY LIFE IS YOURS.” Tomorrow night's outstanding programme will be headed by one of the most entertaining pictures ever brought to the screen, “My Life is Yours,” one of the Kildare series and generally acknowledged to be the best of those brilliant pictures. Lew Ayres, Lionel Barrymore, Laraine Day and Bonita Granville have the leading roles.
