SLOWING OPERATIONS AT STALINGRAD MORE GERMAN ATTACKS REPELLED. NO RECENT ENEMY PROGRESS IN CAUCASUS. LONDON, November 9. At Stalingrad the onset of winter has brought about a slackening in German attacks. Some attempts to gain ground in the factory area were fiercely met by the Russians and repelled. No progress is being made by the Germans in their attempted drive on the Grozny oilfields from the Mozdok and Nalchik areas. COMPLETE FAILURE OF RECENT GERMAN ATTACKS. ENEMY TRANSPORTS SUNK IN BALTIC. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 10.15 a.m.) RUGBY, November 9. Moscow dispatches record the complete failure of German attacks yesterday at Stalingrad, south-east of Nalchik and' north-east of Tuapse. German planes destroyed during the past week totalled 168, compared with 63 Russian. Russian naval units in the Baltic sank two transports, totalling 12,000 tons.
