Advice has been received in Masterton that Pte. E. F. C‘Bunty”) Pringle has been wounded in action.
Miss Jean Forbes, of Wellington, has been visiting Mr and Mrs M. J. Jackson, Church Street, Masterton. The marriage took place in Masterton on Saturday of Miss Maida Helen Andrew, of Masterton, and Sgmn. Norman Olaf Torwick, also of Masterton. The death occurred at Pahiatua yesterday of Mr Sefton Patrick Walsh, only son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Walsh, and husband of Mrs Dulcie Walsh, at the age of 27 years. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, visited Rotorua yesterday. Before returning to Wellington he will visit Whakatane, Opotiki and Gisborne. Mr and Mrs A. V. Dixon, Cornwall Street, Masterton, announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Pauline Rayner, to Leading Aircraftman Noel Charles, youngest son of Mrs and the late Mr A. J. Churchouse, Dannevirke. In the third list of degree examination results for Victoria University College students appear the names of the following ex-Wairarapa High School pupils: —Gladys Bubbers and A. A. Ross (Philosophy I. or IL, Psychology, section 8.A.); R. M. Daniell (section LL.B.). The death occurred early this morning, at the Lewisham Hospital, Wellington, of a well-known and highly respected resident of Masterton, in .the person of Mrs Maria Curry, of. Cornwall Street, widow of Mr James Curry. The funeral will take place on Thursday, leaving St. Patrick’s Church, following mass at 9 a.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. British food experts will visit New Zealand in the near future to collaborate with the Dominion authorities concerned with food supplies in the war. The mission is headed by Mr W. Bankes Amery, of the Ministry of Food, and also includes Mr R. C. Hinton, who is an economist and statistician, and who was formerly a marketing officer in the British Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. He was seconded to the Ministry of Food early in the war, and during the past year he has been head of the general branch in the meat and live stock division.
