POWER SUPPLY

WAIKAREMOANA EXTENSION. FIRST UNIT TO SOON FUNCTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Within a week or two the newly installed 21,000 kw. unit at Piripaua for the extension of the Waikarempana hydro-electric power scheme should be functioning, it is stated. Trouble with the bearings has led to delay in bringing it into operation. Material for the second 21,000 kw. unit to be put in as part of the extension, has not all arrived yet, but the last is being shipped. The operation of these two units will nearly double the present capacity of the Waikarempana plant. They will bring in an additional 42,000 kw. when sufficient water is available to run them to maximum capacity. When there is a low level flow there is only sufficient water for 30,000 kw.
