MEAT FOR EXPORT
MARKETING OF LAMBS. EARLY DELIVERY REQUESTED. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board specially desires to impress on farmers the necessity of delivering their lambs to the freezing works as soon as possible. This particularly applies to early lambs. Having regard to the importance of filling all shipping space offering at the commencement of the season, combined with anticipated difficulties of transport of stock to the works and especially the manpower position at freezing works, farmers, in their own interests, should realise the importance of marketing their lambs as quickly as possible. If freezing works are able to make an early start on the killings of early lambs, it will ease up the position later on when the main rush of lambs is sent along. Having regard to the uncertainty of the present position and with all the difficulties entailed, it is expected that farmers, from a national point of view, will do everything possible to help, otherwise the position may so develop that they may have difficulty in disposing of their f(it lambs. It is expected that the production of meat for export during the coming season will again be heavy; therefore it is all the more necessary that stock should be delivered to the works when ready for slaughter. The risk of congestion, disorganisation, and disappointment will therefore be greatly lessened.
