CHRISTIAN ORDER AN INTERESTING ADDRESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of ladies in connection with the Christian Order Campaign, Mrs J. T. Holland gave a fine address on the subject of “Home Life.” The speaker traced the rise ’in the status of women through history, and emphasised the effect of the teaching of Jesus Christ concerning the sanctity of individual personality as an end in itself. The speaker said that the problem of youth was largely the problem of parents, and how to bring up families of thinking, principled, responsible men and women. Religion and sex were subjects of vital importance. One could not start too early in teaching religion to young children, who learn best from suggestion and by invitation. From five years to sixteen years feeling and emotion were dominant, and this was the age for stories and definite teaching. From sixteen to twentyone years reasoning powers developed rapidly and the mind was full of questions. It was necessary to help youth to answer its questions and to gain a first hand Christian faith. In teaching sex, the speaker emphasised the importance of mutual confidence between parents and children. Questions should be truthfully and frankly answered. Two books recommended on this subject were “Your Sacred Body.” by Catherine Cotton, and “Men, Women and God” by Herbert Gray. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Holland, and many present signified their wish to secure books mentioned by the speaker in the course of her address. The meeting was held in the Anglican Hall and Mrs L. Christie was in the chair, Mrs A. B. Fordyce officiated as pianist and Mrs R. Gallagher proposed the vote of thanks to the speakor. Afternoon tea was served at the close of the meeting.
