KILLED IN CRASH
. COMMANDER OF GLIDER REGIMENT. PIONEER OF NEW DEVELOPMENT IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) RUGBY, October 26. With the death of Lieutenant-Col-onel* John Rock from injuries suffered in a. glider crash, the identity is rei vealed of the first commanding officer of the Glider Pilot Regiment. Colonel J; Rock was a regular officer of the Royal Engineers. He served in France ‘ in 1939-40 as a brigade major. After f Dunkirk he was given the task of originating a British airborne and * parachute force. He shared in all the risks and had a number of narrow’ escapes in the experimental days of ' two years ago, and his last accident occurred in an experimental glider ''’Sight.
