STATE THEATRE
“A YANK IN THE R.A.F.” Newest and most topical of aviation films, “A Yank in the R.A.F.,” which will be shown at the State Theatre tonight, contains its plot in its name, and offers first-class entertainment. Tyrone Power is the Yank who flies a bomber across the Atlantic for money and stays to join the R.A.F. for love. Betty Grable dances in a nightclub chorus at night and looks even more charming in uniform during the day. Power’s flying adventures include a leaflet raid on Berlin, a bombing raid on Dortmund and, as a climax, a thrilling dog-fight, Spitfires v. Messerschmitts and Junkers, over Dunkirk. “A Yank in the • R.A.F.,” is wholeheartedly a film of war and battles, and not a mystery film with a background of war, or a film of international political intrigue, as so many topical dramas have been. The evacuation of Dunkirk brings “A Yank in the R.A.F.” to its climax, told more graphically than ever before. There is a romantic plot, but it keeps its place, and though Betty Grable is happily' prominent, she never once gets inside a bomber.
