ASSAULT CHARGES

PREFERRED AGAINST ERROL FLYNN. AUSTRALIAN-BORN SCREEN STAR (By Telegranh—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 22. A Los Angeles message says two charges of assault have been preferred against Errol Flynn, the Australianborn screen star. Flynn is due to appear in court tomorrow on a charge of having assaulted Betty Hanson, aged seventeen years, after a party on the night of September 29. Last night Flynn was charged with having assaulted Peggy Satterlee, aged seventeen, during a weekend trip on his yacht on August 3, 1941. Police records show that the girl's mother reported the affair to the District Attorney, but that she and her daughter disappeared before a complaint could be issued.

Flynn was born in Hobart in June, 1909, and became an American citizen last August. He was rejected for military service because of a lung ailment. He married Lili Damita, also a film star, in May, 1935, and she divorced him last April, retaining the custody of their son Sean. Under the Californian law, the age of consent is eighteen years.
