A vast three-day bush fire has devastated wide areas in the Santa Monica Mountains, in California, leaving scores of people burned and injured, twelve of them seriously. Twenty-five homes, including pretentious mansions, were destroyed. Fires continue to rage in the Melibu Hills, farther west, forcing thousands temporarily to evacuate threatened areas.
