ECONOMIC MISSION
GOING FROM UNITED STATES TO AUSTRALIA.
QUEST FOR WAR MATERIALS
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) CANBERRA, October 21.
America is sending a special economic mission to Australia to procure bigger quantities of raw materials for her war industries . It is understood that the mission will propose that American business concerns should invest large sums of money to. help the development of Australia’s mineral resources.
Some of the commodities which are wanted by America in increasing quantities are zinc, lead and copper. America is also taking from Australia heavily-increased quantities of wool, all kinds of skins, and some sugar. Four or five specialists will shortly come to Australia, representing the United States Board of Economic Warfare, and they will be the permanent representatives of the board in Australia to assit in the two nations’ supply problems. The board handles private as well as Government transactions, and thus it differs from the lease-lend mission, which deals exclusively in Government exchange of supplies.
