MILITARY MEDALS
AWARDS TO NEW ZEALAND SOLDIERS.
SERVICE IN GREEK CAMPAIGN.

Military medals have been awarded to two New Zealanders who have returned to their units after being posted missing in the campaign in Greece. They are Driver Edward Frederick Foley (next of kin, Mrs M. K. Foley, Auckland), and Staff Sergeant William George Penney (next of kin, Mrs B. Penney, Kaikohe). Foley was born at Awanui in 1917. He enlisted in October, 1939, and left New Zealand with the First Echelon, with the Reserve Motor Transport Company. He was reported missing after the Greek campaign in June, 1941. After the occupation of that country by the enemy, he escaped and returned to Egypt in June, 1942. Penney was born at Whangaroa in March, 1906. He enlisted in September, 1939. and left New Zealand with the Second Echelon. He was reported missing in Greece, and then reported to be a prisoner of war. He was reported safe in the New Zealand Base Camp in the Middle East in June, 1942.
