TOWN AFFAIRS
MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. USE OF PARK OVAL. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held in Masterton last night. There were present.: Messrs T. Jordan (Mayor), W. White, J. Ninnes, R. Russell, H. E. Gardner, G. D. Wilson, A. D. Low, G. W. Morice, A. T. Jackson,- C. E. Grey, W. Kemp and W. H. Judd. The Masterton Amateur Athletic Club was granted use of the Park Oyal on Wednesday evenings for holding sports meetings. The Wairarapa Cricket Association was granted the use of the Park Oval for practice wickets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The council' also granted an application by the Hadlow School for the use of South Park on October 23 for its school sports. . , , Mr B. Braggins was appointed games attendant for the ensuing season. A letter was received from Mr W. Teeboon asking permission for a procession of witness, in furtherance oi the Christian Order Campaign, to pass through the streets for a service m the Park on Sunday afternoon, October 25. The request was granted. The Auckland Suburban Local Bodies’ Association wrote urging the need of legislation to relieve local bodies of some of the burden of hospital taxation. , . The letter was received and it was decided to inform the association that the Municipal Association was taking the matter up with the Government. It was decided to advise the Municipal Association of New Zealand that in the council's opinion the Municipal Conference scheduled for March, 1943, should not be held.
