ALFREDTON

PATRIOTIC SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Patriotic Society held a very successful “games night” on Saturday evening. The winners in the euchre tournament were: —Ladies: Mrs Harcombe, 1. I Men: Messrs E. Seymour and R. Low (equal), 1. The aggregate resulted:— Ladies: Mrs Low. The prize was donated by Mrs V. Payne. Mrs Low most generously handed the prize back to be won again on a future date. Men: Mr E. Seymour (prize donated by Mrs Dickens). Consolation prizes: Ladies (donated by Mrs Hull), Mrs Taverner. Men’s (prize given by Mrs Low), Mr O. Walker.

A competition for 2 boxes of stationery donated by Mr A. McDonald, were won by Mrs Weston and Mr R. Seymour. Mr Seymour put his to auction. The competition realised £1 19s (id.

One pound of tea donated by Mr G. Godinagh for competition realised £1 10s 3d, and was won by Mr Fred Hull.

The following produce, etc. were donated and sold by auction: —lib. butter (donated by Mrs Glee) realised 2s; freezias (Mrs J. Williams), realised 2s lOd; mutton (Mr J. McKay), realised 6s; silver beet (Mr R. Low), realised 3s 6d; vegetables (Mr A. Napier), realised 17s 6d.

Mr R. Seymour donated a pack of playing cards. A donation of £lO was received from Mr Charles Dickens.

The hostesses were Mrs S. Edmonds and Mrs" Hull.

The total takings were £l7 17s 7d.
